When we are getting ready for work in the morning, realizing your shirt is wrinkled is one of the worst things that can happen. We then have to take those extra 10 minutes we were planning to get breakfast with to iron our clothes, then by lunchtime, it looks like we never ironed! Though wrinkled clothes are not entirely avoidable, there are a few things we can do to prevent our clothes from wrinkling for just a little while. 

Before Wear:

Keep Your Clothes Organized

After a load of laundry is done, make sure to take them directly out of the dryer and into their designated places. Allowing your clothes to sit in the dryer or a clean hamper will create wrinkles almost instantaneously. When putting them away, make sure to take your time. Fold or hang them neatly, and make sure never to crowd your drawers or closet, as that will lead to wrinkling as well. 

Iron Well

If you have a garment that requires ironing, take your time during the process—iron both the inside and outside of the garment and the seams. Always make sure that the iron is set to the correct fabric setting to see the best results and avoid any damage to the piece. 

Separate Laundry

A step you can take before clothes even come out of the dryer is to separate your laundry by fabric type before starting your load. Doing this will help alleviate wrinkles because when heavier fabrics crush lighter fabrics in the wash, the weight they are under causes wrinkles before they even leave the machine. 

During Wear:

Flatten Clothes Against the Seat

If you will sit down somewhere for some time and are nervous that your clothes will be one big wrinkle once you get up, make sure to smooth your pants/skirt/shorts before you sit down. This will ensure that there is no extra fabric gathered under you, causing severe wrinkling. 

Avoid Pressure on Your Clothes

Pressure from anything like a handbag, shopping bag, or even a heavy wallet in your pocket can be the cause of wrinkling. Make sure to let your clothes hang off your body freely and how they were intended, and avoid allowing your purse or bag to cling and rub against your clothes too much.
